Position Description
Columbus Academy seeks candidates for a full-time Kindergarten Teacher opening.
The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
Manage the essential classroom activities of approximately 18 students, including primary instructional responsibilities for language arts, mathematics and social studies
Collaborate with colleagues — particularly team members — on curriculum design and development
Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress via both written reports and conferences
Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities
Hold students accountable for the school’s standards of behavior
Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in elementary education or a related field
At least three years of experience as a lead teacher at the early childhood level
Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the early childhood level
Ability to teach a full range of elementary school subjects and to differentiate instruction
Professional orientation toward collaboration and innovation
A reflective practitioner committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
Engages in ongoing professional development by attending seminars, workshops and/or graduate-level studies in the field of education
Enthusiasm for teaching young children
Promotes a classroom environment that is experiential for children, conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and maximizes student learning
A positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to engage, motivate and develop student learning
Enthusiasm towards outdoor education and being outside with children frequently
Physical Conditions
Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions:
Classroom environment
Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
Repetitive motion (use of a keyboard)
Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.
Ability to be outside with children during all seasons utilizing the extensive campus
