Position Description
Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Middle School Math Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2025.
The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
- Teach four to five sections that may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and/or Geometry. Higher level math courses are also often taught in our Upper School.
- Serve as a grade-level advisor to roughly 10 students; prepared to learn and implement advisory curriculum
- Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all middle school faculty members
- Collaborate with grade level and departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development
- Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress, via both written reports and in-person conferences
- Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities
- Hold students accountable for the Academy’s standards of behavior
- Work with others in the school community to support each student’s emotional well-being
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics or a closely related field
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience in middle school, preferably in mathematics
- Passion for teaching middle school children
- Enthusiasm for the study of math concepts
- Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in mathematical instruction at the middle school level
- Leadership qualities to inspire, motivate and develop students
- A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
- Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to lead or direct extracurricular activity or coach interscholastic sport if desired
Physical Conditions
Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions:
- Classroom environment
- Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
- Repetitive motion (use of a keyboard)
- Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.
- A non-smoking campus
